Standout play at quarterback coupled with the defense's ability to pressure the opposing one has always been a recipe for success in football. But as NFL offenses continue to prioritize the pass at all-time level, possessing those mirrored characteristics have taken on an even greater level of importance – and one celebrated NFL analyst believes the San Francisco 49ers are poised to thrive as a result.

At the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Stateline, NV on Thursday, CBS play-by-play commentator Tony Romo explained why he's high on San Francisco this season assuming franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who missed most of last season, is fully healthy.

“The 49ers defensive line looks to be outstanding,” Romo said, per Cam Inman of The Mercury News.  “I know what they have in their schematic advantage on offense with Kyle Shanahan. And so if Jimmy’s able to play a full season, which I think everyone’s excited about seeing, if that happens, hopefully he can play great football and you’ll see the 49ers win a lot of games.

“If you can have a great D-line and you can have really good strong quarterback play, it’s a difficult combination.”

Garoppolo played just three full games in 2018 after tearing his ACL in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. In five starts with the Niners the previous season after being traded from the New England Patriots, he threw for 1,560 yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions while completing 67.4 percent of his throws, leading San Francisco to a 5-0 record.

The 49ers' defensive line received a pair of major upgrades on the edge in the offseason, with a trade for Pro Bowler Dee Ford and the selection of Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa at No. 2 overall in the NFL Draft. They team with star defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to give San Francisco one of the most feared pass-rushing attacks in in the league.
