The San Francisco 49ers made waves weeks ago when they traded up to acquire the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Now, as draft day is upon us, the future for Jimmy Garoppolo remains up in the air as San Francisco is likely to draft a quarterback tonight.
Multiple teams are expected to contact the 49ers today to inquire about the availability of QB Jimmy Garoppolo, per sources. But as of early this morning, the chances of him being traded are, in the words of one source, “remote.” Let’s see if anything changes in next 72 hours.

Adam Schefter's report comes as no surprise as it has long been believed since the 49ers moved up in the draft that Garoppolo would be on his way out. One team constantly being brought up is the New England Patriots, where Garoppolo was drafted to before being traded to the 49ers just a few seasons ago.
One interesting angle to note with any Garoppolo trade by the 49ers was brought up by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Garoppolo's full on no-trade clause that he can exercise makes things a little more tricky for the 49ers. It's unknown whether or not Garoppolo would use the no-trade clause or not, or perhaps use it if a deal is structured and in place with certain teams that maybe he doesn't prefer to go to. Either way, it's fascinating that there is an element to this where Jimmy G actually controls his own fate to a certain extent.
What the 49ers will do with the No. 3 pick is anyone's guess. They've long been linked to Mac Jones but more recently the name Trey Lance has come up as well. One thing has come into focus and that is that it would be shocking if the pick was used on anything else outside of a quarterback.
