Richard Sherman is still on the long road to recover from a torn right Achilles he suffered on Nov. 9. But as the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta reports, the Seattle Seahawks star cornerback says he’s actually further along that road than expected after such a serious injury.

“I guess I’m more ahead of schedule than they(doctors) thought I was,’’ Sherman said of his progress in recovering from Achilles surgery.

Sherman still has to undergo another surgery on his left heel to shave off bone spurs. However, he remains confident he will be back to running in April and ready for mini-camp in June.

As to whether Sherman has any doubts he’ll be in mini-camp playing for the Seattle Seahawks, he replied “Not in my mind.’’

Sherman is in the final year of his current deal, and his Achilles injury has made the situation of negotiation for his next contract a bit unclear. The Seahawks don’t typically allow their stars to reach the final year of their deals before they offer them new contracts.

But Sherman, who is now representing himself in negotiations with the Seahawks in lieu of a full-time agent, remains confident that his injury won’t be a significant factor in their talks.

The Seahawks’ famed “Legion of Boom” is facing quite an uncertain future this offseason. Kam Chancellor’s career is in jeopardy due to a neck injury, while Earl Thomas has also hinted at a possible exit.

Losing Sherman would be another seismic shift for the franchise. But the star corner doesn’t seem to be sweating that possibility just yet, which is a somewhat promising sign that he will, in fact, stay on in Seattle.
