The Seattle Seahawks surprised a lot of people this past season, winning 11 games and making it to the Divisional round of the playoffs before falling to the Green Bay Packers.

But Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner envisions even bigger things for his club in 2020.

During an appearance on ESPN's First Take on Wednesday, (h/t NFL.com) Wagner said he thinks Seattle could end up being the favorite in the NFC next season:

“I feel really confident … Obviously, Russell [Wilson] is an amazing quarterback; the things that he does on the field are just amazing. Like you said, he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks in our game. We’re confident on that side. I feel like from the defensive standpoint, there’s a lot of room for improvement. We have to play a little bit better. I feel like if we make those changes and make those improvements, I still feel like we’ll be the team to beat.”

That is certainly a bold proclamation.

While the Seahawks are certainly a fine team and could end up being one of the better teams in the conference again, they play in an NFC West division that houses the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. On top of that, the New Orleans Saints and Packers aren't going anywhere, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just replaced Jameis Winston with Tom Brady.

Wagner has some Super Bowl experience himself, having won a championship during the 2013-14 campaign and then reaching another Super Bowl the following season.

However, those Seattle teams looked considerably better on paper than this current iteration of the Seahawks.

We'll see if Wagner is right when the 2020 season rolls around.
