The Seattle Seahawks have gone through some changes on the offensive side of the ball this offseason in order to shake things up a bit ahead of the 2018 season.

Their front office has locked up one of their core pieces in the passing game in wide receiver Tyler Lockett to a three-year extension worth at least $31.8 million on Wednesday morning, according to Mike Garafolo of The NFL Network.

In his first three years in the league with the Seahawks, Lockett has proven to be a valuable asset to the passing game as he has provided consistent production. He has posted at least 40 catches and 550 receiving yards in each of those campaigns behind his big-play ability as a deep-ball threat. He has brought another element to the offense due to his speed that has allowed for Russell Wilson to stretch the field.

Lockett has also been a key part of special teams as the primary returner for both kickoffs and punts over his first three years that seen him score three total touchdowns over that span. He is a game-changing talent that has been a largely important piece to the puzzle for the Seahawks in his brief time in the league. This new deal keeps him in the fold through the 2021 season as he was set to hit the free agent market next offseason as he was in the final year of his four-year, $3.3 million rookie contract that will pay him $1.9 million for the 2018 campaign.

This new extension should further clarify that the Seahawks plan to continue to heavily feature him in the passing game alongside fellow wide receivers Doug Baldwin and offseason addition Brandon Marshall. In the meantime, it has locked up one of their core players that could have been a highly sought-after offensive talent on the open market next March.
