Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Chris Conte was met with a brutal stiff arm at the hands of Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Vance McDonald on Monday night, but as it turns out that might not have been the most painful part of his evening. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Conte played with a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his knee.

According to one source who spoke to ESPN, Conte “gutted it out and honestly shouldn't have played.” The Buccaneers placed Conte on injured reserve, which opened up the roster spot for Jameis Winston to return from a three-game suspension. There is still a chance that Conte could return from IR later this season, but for now it appears he could be out for the season with the knee injury.

McDonald, who delivered the nasty stiff arm, said he does feel bad for Conte because he knows how embarrassing it can be to be on that side of a play.

“I actually had time this morning thinking of it in the training room while I was getting ready for the day,” McDonald said, via CBS Sports. “I was thinking, ‘Man, he's got to walk across the field and to be on the other side of something like that is obviously not the place you want to be.' Outside of the game situation and atmosphere, I feel for him. We all have those kind of plays in football.”

Losing Conte for potentially the year is a tough loss for the Buccaneers and their secondary.
