At 44 years old, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. While he did briefly retire earlier in the offseason, he eventually came back to compete once again.
Considering his competitiveness and current conditioning, many are wondering if he'll play until he is 50 years old.
In his recent interview with Complex, the Buccaneers superstar shared his belief that he is more than capable of playing until his 50s. However, he is not planning to, and for good reason.
“It’s a great question. There’s two answers to that. I do think I could play till 50. But I don’t think I will just because I know the commitment that it takes. I know the commitment that it takes for me at 44 and 45,” Brady said.
“I worked out today and it’s a big commitment and I’m away from my 14-year-old son and my 12-year-old son and my nine-year-old daughter. And they deserve my time and energy and they’re getting older. I wanna be there for my son’s football games and lacrosse games and basketball games. He’ll be a freshman this year in high school. He goes to school in New York City. And that’s a big part of my life. I wanna win on the field, but I wanna win off the field.”
Tom Brady also highlighted that he has “pushed the limits” with himself and with a lot of people over the years. With that said, he doesn't want to “miss a lot of really important things” in the life of his children and his wife any longer.
TB12 was also non-committal on his future beyond the 2022 season, adding that he's just going to enjoy it before making any form of decision.
To recall, when Brady initially retired from the NFL and the Buccaneers, one of the major reasons he cited was his family. Of course he also talked to them when he decided to return, but as he mentioned, he might have really pushed the limits this time around.
Does that mean 2022 will be his final year in the NFL? Who knows, but at least we're certain he won't be playing in his 50s as he looks to spend time with his wife and kids.
