The talk of the town with the Tennessee Titans has continued to center on the notable comments made by quarterback Ryan Tannehill regarding the team’s call to draft Malik Willis.
As seen a multitude of times in years past, veteran quarterbacks have often played the role of a mentor to younger passers on the roster. But with Tannehill, he has no interest in being a teacher to the former Liberty standout, as he noted last week that it is not his “job” to do just that.
Amid the media frenzy that the comments created over the past week, Willis did not see that Tannehill's words were quite a big deal at all.
Speaking during the opening day of the Titans’ rookie minicamp schedule, Willis joked a bit when asked for his reaction to Tannehill’s headline-making comments last week. The rookie passer responded by saying “What comment?” before taking some time to laud the veteran quarterback.
“We chopped it up,” Willis said. “I mean, it was never anything negative. Ryan’s a good dude. Like I said he had us over to the house. Everything’s cool.”
For Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, he opted to side with Tannehill on this matter by noting that being a mentor to Willis is not the veteran's responsibility.
In the big picture, the entire debacle sure is now water under the bridge. Both Willis and Vrabel seemingly were not caught off guard by Tannehill’s stance on this dilemma, and the attention for the trio has shifted to the team’s offseason workout programs.
