The Tennessee Titans will get a chance to upset the New England Patriots on Wild Card weekend. The Titans enter the game as underdogs and will need Ryan Tannehill to deliver another notable performance at quarterback.
Since Tannehill became the starter in Week 7, he's been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The veteran quarterback has completed a career-high 70.3 percent of his passes for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 10 starts.
Above all, Tannehill was able to lead Tennessee into the postseason for the first time under Mike Vrabel. In addition, Tannehill will be starting in the first playoff game of his career on Saturday against the Patriots.
With that in mind, here a few bold predictions for the Titans' quarterback versus the Patriots in the AFC Wild Card Round.
Tannehill will have zero turnovers
Over the course of the season, New England's defense has been remarkable at forcing turnovers. At the conclusion of Week 17, the Patriots were second in the NFL with 36 takeaways (25 interceptions, 11 fumble recoveries).
Most impressively, the Patriots only had three games in 2019 where they went without a takeaway. Two of them came in the final two weeks of the regular season against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins.
While Tannehill was known for his poor decision-making with the Dolphins, he's been extremely efficient with the Titans. The Titans' starting quarterback will have his third straight contest of having zero turnovers on Saturday night.
Tannehill will throw for 300 yards
Article Continues BelowBesides being able to force turnovers, the Patriots have been stingy against the pass. The Patriots finished the season with the second-best pass defense in the NFL that allowed only 180.4 yards per game.
But in the final game of the season, Ryan Fitzpatrick was able to torch New England's vaunted defense for 326 passing yards to upset the Patriots. Fitzpatrick was the first quarterback to eclipse 300 passing yards versus the Patriots in 2019.
Could Tannehill become the second quarterback to surpass 300 passing yards against the Patriots this year? There's no doubt that it would be quite the feat for Tannehill in his first career start in the playoffs.
Tannehill will lead the Titans to a victory
Ahead of the game between the Titans and Patriots, New England has opened as 4.5-point favorites at home. That is the second-largest spread in the four Wild Card games that are scheduled to take place on the upcoming weekend.
Additionally, the game will take place in Foxborough at Gillette Stadium. The Patriots haven't lost a home playoff game since the 2012 season against the Baltimore Ravens.
All signs point towards Tannehill and the Titans falling short against arguably the greatest dynasty in all of sports. But wouldn't it be staggering to see Tannehill lead the Titans to a victory on Saturday?
