With Tennesse Titans running back DeMarco Murray ruled out for Saturday's matchup versus the New England Patriots, the team will once again rely heavily on running back Derrick Henry. Murray had initially suffered the injury in Week 16 of the 2017 NFL season. Since then, Henry has filled in tremendously as the Titans' workhorse.
As a result, there has been some speculation that Murray may have taken his final snaps in Tennessee. ESPN's Cameron Wolfe believes there's a decent chance that will indeed be the case.
There's a decent chance that we have seen Murray take his last snap in a Titans uniform. Murray is out Saturday with a torn MCL, and he won't return unless the Titans make the AFC Championship or Super Bowl. It's time to hand the feature back keys to Henry. Murray is scheduled to make $6.5 million in 2018, probably too much money for a backup, but the Titans will owe no dead money if he's cut.
Henry has waited his time, and now it appears he has finally secured his feature back opportunity.
Wolfe isn't alone in his belief that Murray's time could be done now that Henry is stepping up to the plate. None other than Eddie George, the Titans' all-time leading rusher, also has tremendous faith in Henry's ability as a premier ball-carrier.

We’re seeing Derrick with fresh legs, a new hunger, wanting to leave his mark on this league,” George said. “He’s handled himself extremely well. He’s a back that needs to get the ball 20 to 25 times to see how he can really control a game.”
While it is unfortunate to see Murray's reign as the Titans' top rusher come to an end due to injury, it was only a matter of time before Henry was poised to take over that workhorse role. Up until the injury, the second-year man out of Alabama had been primarily used as a complementary piece to the veteran runner.
Although Henry has had a handful of strong games up to this point, his coming-out party finally occurred last week in the Titans' win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card. Henry gashed the Chiefs defense for a career-high 156 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
