The Tennessee Titans have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for free-agent defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney, but we should probably pump the brakes. At least for now.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel says that the club has not scheduled a visit with Clowney in Nashville, according to Turron Davenport of ESPN.com.
Clowney entered free agency as one of the top pass rushers available. However, here we are in late July, and he remains unsigned. Clearly, there is a disconnect between what Clowney desires and what the rest of the NFL feels he is worth.
The 27-year-old was hoping to land a massive contract this offseason, but there is plenty of reason to be skeptical of him.
Article Continues BelowFirst and foremost, Clowney is coming off of an injury-plagued 2019-20 campaign with the Seattle Seahawks in which he played 13 games and logged 31 tackles, three sacks, an interception, four forced fumbles, a couple of fumble recoveries and a pair of defensive touchdowns. Clowney dealt with a sports hernia injury throughout the second half of the year, an issue that would require surgery back in February.
Also, since entering the league as the No. 1 overall pick of the Houston Texans back in 2014, Clowney has yet to register a double-digit sack season, with the University of South Carolina product topped out at 9.5 sacks in 2017.
Clowney made three straight Pro Bowl appearances with the Texans between 2016 and 2018. However, because he could not reach a long-term agreement with Houston, he was traded to the Seahawks last September.
Tennessee won nine games and made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game this past year.
