Tennessee Titans first-year offensive coordinator Arthur Smith made quite the mistake during the first day of training camp, as he yelled at rookie wide receiver A.J. Brown after Brown went down with an injury during a drill.

Smith screamed at Brown for not completing the drill properly, not knowing that Brown had injured his hamstring in the process.

But Smith recognized the error of is ways, and when Brown returned to practice, Smith was sure to apologize.

“I felt like a jerk for that,” Smith said, per Darin Gantt of Pro Football Talk. “I didn’t know. I apologized to A.J. … In the moment you go back and you look at it and we were just trying to get him to finish. There’s a lot of rookies and you’re trying to set a culture. Coach [Mike] Vrabel has done a great job of doing it and we’re trying to implement it. A lot of rookies, you’re trying to remind.”

Smith added that if he would have known Brown was hurt, he wouldn't have reacted in that manner.

“That wasn’t clearly the intent,” said Smith. “If I had known he was hurt, I would not have gone over to do that. As soon as I realized it, I felt awful, so I walked over and said something and then I walked to the training room and apologized to him and I told him that. My wife gave me an earful about it, too. There was a video going around.”

Brown said that Smith “apologized a couple of times.”

The Titans selected Brown, who played his collegiate football at the University of Mississippi, in the second round (51st pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in April.

He is coming off of a tremendous junior campaign in which he hauled in 85 receptions for 1,320 yards and six touchdowns.
