After their epic winning streak abruptly came to an end at the hands of the NFC East leading Dallas Cowboys in Week 14, it goes without saying that Washington still has room for improvement. Even though their play has been electric on both ends of the field in recent weeks, they got off to a rough start against the Cowboys and spent the entirety of the game playing catch-up. With a series of silly mistakes and costly turnovers, Washington sealed its fate early on and was never able to fully recover.

Despite only losing by one score and making a miraculous comeback, Washington's efforts were too little too late. However, there's still a lot of football left to play and Washington always plays better when their backs are up against the wall. So with everything that's been going on with Washington as of late, we'll now discuss two major takeaways from their deflating Week 14 loss to the Cowboys.

Washington Week 14 Takeaways

Washington needs more consistency from Taylor Heinicke in their upcoming games

Prior to Washington's 4-game winning streak, Heinicke's play had been wildly inconsistent and they hadn't been able to produce on offense. During their disappointing loss to the Cowboys in Week 14, it seemed as if Heinicke had regressed back to his old ways and was in a funk all game long that he couldn't snap himself out of. Even though his play was much more efficient in the second half of the game, it still wasn't enough to overcome the large deficit Dallas had built early on.

As they continue to fight for playoff positioning, every game from here on out will be of utter importance to Washington's chances of making the postseason. So if they want to stay relevant in the NFC playoff mix, Taylor Heinicke will have to play at his level best for the remainder of the season.

Cam Sims was a bright spot for Washington in Week 14

With 69 yards receiving and a touchdown on just three receptions, Cam Sims was one of the few bright spots for Washington during Sunday's tough loss to the Cowboys. As they search for more production on offense, an additional passing threat like Sims will only be more beneficial to them in the long haul.

Given all the ups and downs this team has endured throughout the season, Washington definitely could use all the help they can get and a solid find like Sims in their offensive game plan will add quality depth to their roster. In a tight-knit NFC playoff race, Washington must utilize all the talent at their disposal, and if Sims can continue to play at a high level for them, then this will only be a sign of great things to come.

Currently in need of a bounce game next weekend, having another set of steady hands like Sims will only do wonders for Washington as they hope to build on last season's success and make a deep playoff run. In their continued pursuit of building a winning culture in D.C., the Washington Football Team definitely saw a ton of potential in Sims this past Sunday.
