The Carolina Hurricanes will head into St. Louis tonight to take on the Blues in this cross-conference matchup. This will be the second and last time these teams meet in the regular season this year, and the Canes were able to take home the first win with a 3-2 victory back in November. Both of these teams aren't playing great hockey lately, but let's break it down as it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Hurricanes-Blues prediction and pick.

Why The Hurricanes Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the best teams in the league and aren't looking to stop any time soon. They are not playing their best hockey lately, going 5-3-2 in the last 10 games, but they can hold out until playoff time comes around. The Canes have the second-best team, points-wise, in the East and first in their division. The Canes are pretty solid on both ends of the ice, as they are scoring 3.25 goals per game and allowing only 2.37 goals against per game. They also have a very solid netminder in Freddie Andersen. He'll look to get another start tonight as he's repping a .926 save percentage and allowing 2.07 goals against per game, on the season. The Canes will look to keep their momentum up as the playoffs slowly approach.

Why The Blues Can Cover The Spread/Win

The St. Louis Blues have also been a mini-slump lately, going 3-4-3 in their last 10 games. The difference for the Blues is that if they keep losing, they'll find themselves out of a playoff spot. The Western Conference is a very tight race for playoffs and positioning, so the Blues need to step it up if they want to try and pull away from the rest of the pack. Overall, the Blues have a lot of depth on their team and can keep up the scoring with the best of them, scoring 3.52 goals per game so far on the season. They also have a solid defense, allowing 2.77 goals against per game.

The goaltending situation in St. Louis is still a little murky, as Ville Husso has taken over the number one role in net. He should be getting the starting nod tonight as he is repping a .925 save percentage on the year while allowing 2.33 goals per game. The Blues definitely have their work cut out for them at home tonight.

Final Hurricanes-Blues Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams are not playing their best hockey lately, but it's hard to not pick the Hurricanes in this one. They've proven to be one of the better teams in the league this season and I have no doubt that they'll go out there to prove it again tonight. Give me Carolina's Moneyline while it's still relatively low.
