Game three of the Western Conference Final is tonight in Edmonton as the Oilers look to win at home against the Colorado Avalanche. Games one and two were both pretty dominant for the Avs as they won both of them, but this is a must-win game for the Oilers if they want to stay in this series. If they go down 3-0, it's all but over at that point. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with an Avalanche-Oilers prediction and pick.

Why The Avalanche Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Colorado Avalanche are not a team to take lightly, they're where they are right now because of how deep their squad is. Every line can score and keep up the pressure on both ends of the ice, making them a crazy scary team to face off against right now. They have an outstanding offense and their defense is just as strong. In game two, starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper was out with an upper-body injury, leaving Pavel Francouz to take over in the net. Not a problem for him though as he not only got a shutout, but the Avs defense took care of him in the defensive zone and didn't allow very many shots. They'll look to do that again tonight, regardless of who is starting between the pipes, and go up 3-0 on the Oilers, making it that much more difficult for them to come back.

Why The Oilers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Edmonton Oilers are finally back at home after losing both games one and two on the road. However, even though they lost, they didn't back down from the fight as the game got very chippy towards the end of the third period. Their top players in Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, etc. are still producing, which is great for Oilers fans, but is it too little too late? This game is a must-win for these guys if they have any chance at moving on to the Stanley Cup Final.

It's no secret that Mike Smith will likely be back in the net for the Oilers tonight after being pulled in game one, but he didn't get the offensive help from his team in game two. He's showing a .916 save percentage through the playoffs so far, but the Avs seem to have his number. The Oilers are desperate for a win tonight as they certainly don't want to work on the goal game just yet.

Final Avalanche-Oilers Prediction & Pick

This is a tough matchup, but the Avs are simply just a better team. They have massive depth, a great source of momentum, and a source of passion to win the Stanley Cup this year. The way that they were playing in the first two games, it's almost too easy to pick the Avs here tonight, but I still think that the Oilers will win one game at home, forcing the series to go to five games where the Avs will win back at home. I was digging around to find some value in this game, and I found the Avs 3Way Moneyline looks pretty good, forcing them to win in regulation while it's listed at +115. That's what I'm taking tonight.
