Why the Canadiens Could Win Game 7

The Canadiens have come a long way. They were down 1-3 after four games of this series, but thanks in large part to the immense netminding job of the ever-reliable Carey Price, the Habs are now staring at a golden chance of causing yet another Toronto meltdown in the playoffs.

Carey is no longer one of the top guys in front of the net in the NHL today, but people have got to respect what he’s done lately. Price turned away 32 of the 35 shots he faced in Game 5. He elevated his game even higher in Game 6, as he stopped 41 of 43 Maple Leafs’ shots in a 3-2 overtime win for Montreal to force a Game 7.

Price sure could use plenty of help from the Habs’ blue line, as Toronto has outshot Montreal in each of the last two games. The Canadiens’ power play also came through in Game 6 with two goals on the man advantage, those were the first PPGs that the Habs have scored in the series, and that could be a sign of things to come for their special teams in Game 7. Speaking of the special teams, the Habs’ penalty kill has held Toronto scoreless in five power-play chances since Game 5.

Why the Maple Leafs Could Win Game 7

Here we go again. Those were probably what most Maple Leafs fans thought after flunking back-to-back chances to close out the first-round series against the Canadiens. What’s making Toronto fateful even more nervous is the fact that one of the team’s key players will not see action in Game 7.

That’s defenseman Jake Muzzin, who suffered a lower-body injury in Game 6. However, Toronto could be getting John Tavares back. Tavares was seen skating during Monday morning’s practice. The Maple Leafs’ offense would get certainly get a boost if Taveres gets the green light, though Toronto has done well in terms of possessions in the series even without the center.

The Maple Leafs have a 52.1 SAT% in the series compared to just 47.9 SAT% by the Canadiens. On top of that, Toronto has a 53.7 scoring chance for percentage through six games in the series. The Maple Leafs are getting their shots and dominating possessions. It’s just a matter of converting. Hopefully for Toronto, Auston Matthews will also show up in Game 7, as he’s stuck with just a goal in the first round, so far.

Final Canadiens-Maple Leafs Game 7 Prediction & Pick

It's Game 7 in the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. You can throw away all the stats you know about both teams, as it could all boil down to luck, really. That being said, I'm liking the chances of the Habs mainly because of the momentum they are on. There's also just so much pressure on the Maple Leafs, in large part because of their history of failures in this kind of games.

FINAL PICK: Montreal Canadiens (+175)
