Well, it appears that Alex Ovechkin will finish out his NHL career with the Washington Capitals.

Ovi and DC agreed to a five-year, $47.5 million extension on Tuesday, which drew a very hyped response from the Russian superstar:

Alex Ovechkin has been the face of the Capitals franchise for years. He led the organization to their first Stanley Cup in 2018 and is also one of the best players in the league. Since his rookie season in 2005/2006, the Caps are second in the NHL in wins (689) and points (1.524).

Ovechkin is one of the most lethal scorers the NHL has ever seen. He's sixth on the all-time scoring list after another 24 goals and 18 assists in 2020/21. Alex Ovechkin has won the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy a total of nine times, a testament to just how much of a force he is offensively.

GM Brian MacLellan had this to say about Ovi's extension:

“Alex is the face of our franchise and is committed to this organization and this city,” said MacLellan. “Alex embodies what our franchise is all about, and we're thrilled that he will continue his career in the Caps uniform for the next five years.”

With five years left, Alex Ovechkin will be looking to win more cups and maybe even catch Wayne Gretzky on the all-time scoring list. He currently has 730, while Gretzky is at 894.
