Despite no longer being on the San Francisco 49ers, Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is still finding ways to help out his former squad. Garoppolo passed his physical with the Raiders, which ensures that the Niners get a compensatory draft pick, reports Niners Nation's Kyle Posey.
“On Sunday, Garoppolo passed his physical ahead of training camp. That’s great news for San Francisco, as that closes the book for both sides as Jimmy passing a physical was the final trigger needed to ensure the 49ers wind up with a comp pick for Garoppolo.”
Both the Niners and Jimmy Garoppolo can now officially move onto new eras; Garoppolo passes his physical and opens training camp as QB1 with the Raiders while the Niners know they will be getting a compensatory pick for their former QB1 leaving in NFL free agency.
The Niners and Garoppolo will face-off in joint practices between San Francisco and the Raiders later on in training camp. It is highly unlikely that there is much bad blood between Jimmy G and the Niners, but it will still be something to watch out for before the joint practices begin.
The Niners and the Raiders both have very interesting seasons ahead of them. While the Raiders are going to gauge whether or not Jimmy Garoppolo can be their quarterback of the future, the Niners will be trying to decide between three quarterbacks of their own. Stay tuned throughout NFL training camp as news emerges from both of these organizations on what the 2023 campaign will look like.
