No Man's Sky: Leviathan is finally here. Here's everything you need to know about the latest expedition – Leviathan.

No Man's Sky's latest update, Outlaws, did really well for both fans and critics. It's been a very fun ride filled with new content and things to explore and experience. Now, Outlaws will be getting its much-awaited expedition: No Man's Sky: Leviathan.

Whales have been used as a teaser to what kind of content players will get out of the Leviathan Expedition, and the whales are finally here. There are a lot of things to unpack with this Expedition which actually plays out a little differently compared to other Expeditions we've seen in No Man's Sky before.

Leviathan will feature roguelike-style gameplay, with survival as a focal gameplay theme for Expedition 7. The setting is ala Returnal, with a mysterious time-loop curse that is apparently caused by a mysterious creature called the Leviathan.

Every time players die in this expedition, some individual progress gets reset, but each attempt will count towards Specialist Polo's research into the time-loop, getting players closer to the Expedition's conclusion. Every run will also equip players with a procedurally-generated loadout which gets better and better the more players progress into the Expedition as a whole. Players also collect Memory Fragments that will contribute to their loadout in future runs. The more players who participate in Specialist Polo's research, the stronger the Memory Fragments become, the easier future runs become for everyone.

No Man's Sky: Leviathan Expedition Rewards

As usual, Expedition rewards in No Man's Sky are very generous, but it's extra generous here in Leviathan. This Expedition's rewards include The Whalestalker Cloak, a mini Organic Frigate for your base, a Temporal Starship Trail, and your very own Giant Whale Frigate, among other, less grandiose rewards like base decorations and an Organic Frigate Calf that you can rehome in your base.

To play, players will have to begin a new Community Expedition save, which gets them into the time-loop. When the Expedition concludes, the save will be converted to Survival Mode, but any rewards you receive from this Expedition will be redeemable across all save games from the Space Anomaly's Quicksilver Synthesis Companion.

The Expedition starts today and will last for the better part of the next six weeks, so be sure to contribute to the Expedition this month to get your very own Leviathan Frigate. For the full details, check out the community update page here.
