The Denver Nuggets did very little ahead of the NBA trade deadline. They signed backup big man DeMarcus Cousins to another 10-day contract and made a small trade in January. Otherwise, they stayed silent in the mad dash to make deals.

According to Mike Singer of the Denver Post, the Nuggets were active at the trade deadline but couldn't find a deal to get done. However, he also provided huge injury updates for Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr.

The Nuggets explored several deals that they hoped would have addressed needs on the perimeter and in the reserve frontcourt, one league source said, but nothing came to fruition as Thursday’s deadline passed.

The biggest additions that could, possibly, maybe aid Denver’s playoff push were already in-house.

Michael Porter Jr. and Jamal Murray are expected to each be physically cleared to return before the end of the regular season, a source said. Murray’s rehab from a torn ACL is different than Porter’s rehab from early-season back surgery. The two — and their respective timelines — shouldn’t be compared.

Having Murray and Porter Jr. back in time for the playoffs would be huge. Nikola Jokic has fared well without them but the Nuggets will need them once the playoffs roll around. Although it will take time for both of them to get adjusted again, as Singer mentioned, and they are on different paths due to their very different injuries.

Still, for there to be any hope of Murray or Porter to play this season is excellent news for Denver. Even if neither play, they will likely have a full offseason to get their conditioning and confidence back.
