The Denver Nuggets have been hit hard by injuries. The injury bug bit the Nuggets last season when Jamal Murray suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last April. Murray was ruled out indefinitely for the 2021-22 campaign, though Nuggets head coach Michael Malone made some eye-opening comments when asked if Murray would possibly return this season.
“Jamal Murray, honestly, will come back when he is ready. And you make a valid point, like, ‘Hey, if we’re in the mix, you know, maybe that makes it that much more attractive for Jamal to try and play this year.’ If we’re not in the mix, you know, does it make sense to risk anything or do you just use the extra time this offseason to get back for next season?”
Nuggets head coach Michael Malone hasn't put any pressure on Jamal Murray to return to the court. Yet, at the same time, as Malone alluded to, if the Nuggets are in the mix maybe it makes sense for the team to try to get the star guard back in action.
With the Nuggets currently fifth in the Western Conference, it's interesting to hear Malone mention that Murray's chances of a return increase if the team is in the mix, because they currently are.
Of course, as Malone also said, the wild card in all this isn't how Murray is feeling physically, but how he's feeling mentally. Murray's confidence level with his conditioning and movement following the injury will be just as important as how well he recovers physically.
That's why Michael Malone and the Nuggets aren't putting any pressure on Jamal Murray to return this season.
