The Denver Nuggets are currently sitting at the number two seed in the bloodbath that is the NBA's Western Conference. With a roster brimming with young talent and arguably the best center in the game today in Nikola Jokic, the Mile High City franchise has finally lived up to the hype of being the next big thing when the duopoly of the Golden State Warriors and any LeBron James team starts to fade away.

But any conversation involving Nuggets starts and ends with the 7-foot Serbian who is practically the anchor of the squad. The 24-year-old's importance to the team is punctuated by his teammates literally surrounding him like security accompanying a mixed martial arts fighter to his match.

Jokic was one of two Nikola's (the other being Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic) who were recognized as first-time All-Stars in 2019. It's not like the center is having a massive performance boost that led to the selection considering he has been putting up near-triple double averages for a few seasons now and is just an unfortunate victim of the West's depth.

Nuggets are just one game behind the two-time defending champions the Warriors for homecourt advantage the entire first three rounds. The season series between the two are currently tied and their March-April head to head matchups would surely play a major part in locking up the top seed, barring any late slump or strong push from the lower teams such as Oklahoma City Thunder who have been similarly spectacular.
