As The Athletic continues to count down their version of “The NFL 100,” identifying the top players to ever play, they have come across perhaps their most interesting interview amongst the names announced so far. That name, none other than O.J. Simpson.

O.J. Simpson checked in at No. 41 on the list for The Athletic and he did an interview with Tim Graham that covered a ton of bases. One thing that stood out, O.J. told Graham, of The Athletic, that he believes most would want to have his life.

“How many Americans, even today, wouldn’t like to live my life?” Simpson asks. “I don’t work. I play golf four or five days a week. I go out to dinner a couple of nights with friends. People want to buy me drinks. I’m always taking pictures with people. Ladies hug me…I’m living a good life now.”

Of course, O.J. Simpson had an incredible football career but is known by most for being on trial during what most claim to be, “the trial of the century.”

Simpson was asked how he thinks his obituary will be noted, which is a pretty dark thought to present so someone. O.J. responded though, hoping he is remembered for being O.J. Simpson the football player and not as he puts it, “the other stuff.”

“Wow,” Simpson replies. He looks away. His eyes widen. He inhales deeply. “I hope it starts out with football. I know they’re going to add the other stuff.”

“The L.A. thing, unfortunately, some people wrongfully believe something, but I moved on. I still think I’m a good guy. I didn’t let it change me. It did for a while. I was angry for a while, but I treat everybody the way I want to be treated.”

Simpson capped it with a pretty chilling quote.

“I have trouble with L.A.,” Simpson says. “People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it. I really don’t know who did this.”

Regardless of your thoughts on “the other stuff,” O.J. Simpson is living a good life in his eyes that many would exchange their own for.
