The Ohio State football team lost two games last season and one of them came at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Quarterback Kyle McCord, now with the Syracuse Orange in New York state, was intercepted by Michigan defensive back Rod Moore as the Buckeyes lost their biggest game of the season and missed out on the Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis.

Recently, an NIL move done by Ohio State football and Texas football was followed up with a similar one by Michigan football. The NBA's all-time leading scorer LeBron James had a poignant message for Ohio State football fans ahead of the release of the upcoming NCAA Football video game.

According to two anonymous coaches, the Buckeyes' season comes down to ‘The Game' yet again.

Big Ten rival coaches speak out on Day, Buckeyes

The coaches got real on Coach Day's expectations for this season with the Buckeyes and they centered around the Michigan game once again.

“It's not national title or bust, but it's certainly beat Michigan or bust, and the expectation is always to win the league,” one anonymous coach said.

“Nothing really matters until they can get Michigan off their backs in November,” another coach said to Athlon. “The standards here are higher than anywhere else this season.”

Ohio State added former Alabama football safety Caleb Downs in one of the most lucrative off-season transfer portal signings of the season. The Buckeyes also added Kansas State quarterback Will Howard in the transfer portal. Howard will battle it out with incumbent Buckeyes QB Devin Brown for the starting position this fall among other contenders.

Buckeyes kick off season vs. Zips in Columbus

Ohio State football will open the season on August 31 against the Akron Zips, a suitable warm-up game for what should be a challenging schedule this season against the Pac-12 infused Big Ten Conference. Coach Day's team gets the defending national champion Wolverines at home on November 30. The Wolverines will have to replace JJ McCarthy, the top 15 NFL Draft pick who originally wanted to be a Buckeye but ended up at Michigan football after he was denied by Coach Day's regime in Columbus.
