The Edmonton Oilers struck early in NHL free agency, managing to lock down Evander Kane on a new four-year deal. Kane himself announced his return to the Oilers via Twitter in what was a long, heartfelt message. In his statement, the 30-year-old thanked the organization, as well as his family and friends, for the support they've shown him over the last year. Kane indicated that he's returning to the Oilers on a four-year deal worth $25 million that will see him collect $5.125 million per year.

Kane revealed that the Oilers offering him a lifeline after his tumultuous exit from the San Jose Sharks played a huge factor in his decision to return to Edmonton in the offseason.

“I want to thank the Edmonton Oilers for giving me an opportunity to REMIND people who I am as a player and person,” said Kane.

“A big part of my decision to stay in Edmotnon was because of the opportuntiy given to me only 7 months ago but also the chance to be apart of a championship team.”

It was less than a year ago that Kane's NHL future looked extremely uncertain, but the Oilers bet on his talent and gave him a chance to put his head down and get to work. He did just that with the Oilers, racking up 39 points in 43 games during the regular season, and following that up with 17 points (including a league-high 13 goals) across 15 playoff games.

Kane played a pivotal role in the Oilers' run to the Western Conference Finals and he's confident the team has what it takes to run it back and reach the Stanley Cup Finals.
