The Indiana Pacers were one of the pleasant surprises of the 2019-20 season. The team won 39 games before the campaign was suspended, despite All-Star shooting guard Victor Oladipo only appearing in 13 contests. The high-flyer missed the early part of the season recovering from his ruptured quad tendon injury.

If the 2019-20 season gets canceled altogether, Pacers general manager Chad Buchanan should be proud of the way his team battled for most of the season sans Oladipo. However, there is one trade Buchanan should make in the offseason despite it not being a popular one, but also one that could make Indiana more versatile on offense.

The Pacers have long hoped that the frontcourt duo of Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis would lead the franchise to the promised land. However, the fit has been rough at times since there's not a lot of floor spacing on the court when Turner and Sabonis share minutes.

With that being the case, the Pacers should trade Turner this offseason so they can maximize the full potential of Sabonis, who made his first All-Star team this season by averaging 18.5 points, 12.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 54.0 percent from the field, 25.4 percent from beyond the arc and 72.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Turner was on the trade block at the 2020 trade deadline. He signed a four-year, $80 million extension with the Pacers in 2018. The Texas native was putting up 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 55 games this season. He still doesn't have a polished enough post-game. Turner shoots a lot of jumpers, which is fine from time to time, but the Pacers need their starting center to dominate the paint. The 24-year-old has career averages of 12.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.

Sabonis is a much more effective post-up player for the Pacers and his elite passing skills allow Indiana to run zipper cuts with their guards when Domantas has the ball, surveying the floor.

It would make sense for Indiana to trade Turner to the Western Conference so the team wouldn't have to deal with the shot-blocking big man that often. Teams around the NBA are surely keeping an eye on the situation in Indiana as it pertains to Turner and his future.
