This marks the end of a weird saga centered on McCaw, whose demand of the Warriors wasn't taken lightly by several fans, pundits, and even member of Golden State's organization. Just recently, it was rumored that team owner Joe Lacob was “ticked off” by the way this situation has dragged.
McCaw spent his first two professional seasons in Golden State, where he averaged 4.0 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over the course of 128 games.
The former UNLV Running Rebel's contract with Cleveland is non-guaranteed, giving the Cavs much leeway as they observe how McCaw fares for the wine and gold.
Patrick McCaw is only 23 years old but already holds two championships-worth of experience. However, that won't matter much to the Cavs at this point. The team, as of this writing, holds the NBA's worst win-loss card and isn't primed to make any leap later in the year.
The Warriors, on the other hand, had very little incentive to match the money on McCaw as they have their own luxury tax bill to manage. The emergence of Alfonzo McKinnie also makes it easier for the Dubs after he has found his niche within Steve Kerr's system, despite being almost an end-of-the-bench type of player, just like what Patrick McCaw was for the Warriors.
