The Indiana Pacers already have a new head coach in the very experienced Rick Carlisle. Now, they've pinpointed his main assistant: former Atlanta Hawks boss, Lloyd Pierce.

While it's not official quite yet, it does look like Pierce will be on the Pacers bench next season. He's currently the assistant for Gregg Popovich for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics, too.

Pierce was fired by Atlanta prior to the All-Star break after a horrendous start to the season. Nate McMillan came in and led the Hawks to an outstanding second half and all the way to the conference finals, where they're battling it out with the Bucks.

The Pacers should be a solid destination for Pierce, though. Working alongside Carlisle, who previously coached Indy before taking his talents to Dallas, will be a great combination.

Prior to his brief stint as a head coach, Lloyd Pierce was an assistant for numerous different teams, including the Grizzlies, Warriors, Cavs, and Sixers. It's clearly a role that he's enjoyed the most success in and his expertise should be a valuable asset to a Pacers team that will be looking to bounce back from a rather disappointing 2020/21 season.

This will also be the next step to eventually getting a head coaching job again in the future after a failed stint in Atlanta.
