The Indiana Pacers are expected to jump in to the Aaron Gordon sweepstakes, likely sending an offer sheet exceeding the $20 million annual range, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Pacers will dart their best shot at the Orlando Magic power forward, although the franchise is largely expected to offer him the max, which would contain an extra year under contract and several more millions in exchange for his services.

As a restricted free agent, the Magic still possess the option to match that offer sheet, something they could use to their advantage if they hope to sign him for less than the max.

Gordon has long expressed a desire for a quick and painless free agency period, hoping he would get an outright five-year, $158 max offer sheet from the Magic — yet while the franchise has remained intent in retaining his services, the words “max” have yet to be uttered from the front office.

The Pacers lose nothing by making this offer, potentially getting one of the best young talents available to add to a core surrounded by Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner, who brought them into the playoffs last season.

Gordon put together the best year of his career in 2017-18, averaging 17.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while vastly improving his 3-point shooting ability in efforts to prove he could be a fit at the small forward position.
