The Green Bay Packers hope that the future transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love goes as smoothly as the one they had from Brett Favre to Rodgers. Brady Poppinga, who played with the Packers from 2005-2010, recounts the moment Green Bay chose Rodgers over Favre.

Back in 2005, the Packers selected Rodgers with the No. 24 pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. Despite Rodgers' selection, Green Bay chose to keep Favre as their starter for a few more seasons.

However, in the 2007 season, Rodgers received a chance to play in a Week 13 matchup versus the Dallas Cowboys. While he was unable to bring the Packers back and win the game, his performance versus the Cowboys gave optimism to the front office in Green Bay.

In an article by Jason Wilde of The Athletic, Poppinga recalls Rodgers' outing against Dallas and a conversation he had with John Schneider as the time he knew Favre's time in Green Bay was over:

“Aaron always showed promise. But what I saw that night against the Cowboys wasn’t what ultimately convinced me that he was going to take over,” Poppinga recalled earlier this month. “It was a conversation I had with John Schneider. It was like the truth serum was in his veins. He’s like, ‘We’ve got our guy, man. We’ve got our guy of the future. Aaron is our guy. Did you see him play?’ He was so adamant the day after that they were done with Favre.”

Schneider, the current GM of the Seattle Seahawks, was the Packers director of football operations when Rodgers first arrived. After a couple of years sitting behind Favre, Rodgers showed enough to Schneider and organization for him to earn the starting job.

It's safe to say they made the right decision.
