The Green Bay Packers won a thrilling yet too-close-for-comfort Week 17 matchup against NFC North division rival Detroit Lions to close out the 2019 NFL regular season. After placekicker Mason Crosby guided the winning field-goal through the uprights at the end of regulation, the Packers clinched a first-round bye in the NFC playoffs by beating the Lions.

Therefore, the Packers are now the No. 2 seed in the NFC and will play the winner of the Wild Card round between Nos. 4 and 5. At the moment, those two teams appear to be the Philadelphia Eagles or Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks or San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles can clinch the fourth seed via winning the NFC East division title with a victory Sunday afternoon against the New York Giants. The Seahawks and Niners, meanwhile, play tonight on “Sunday Night Football” for the NFC West title and de facto first seed in the NFC.

Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 36, threw 27/55 for 323 yards along with two touchdowns and an interception against the Lions in the Week 17 win. A pick down the sidelines late in the fourth quarter gave the Lions possession in the final minute of regulation, but undrafted rookie quarterback David Blough out of Purdue could not muster a last-second drive with the game time, which ended the game before overtime.

The Packers prevented a first-round bye from slipping from their grasp unlike the New England Patriots in the AFC, who lost to the Miami Dolphins at the end of regulation and will have to play next week in the Wild Card round.
