Despite losing veteran Morgan Burnett in free agency, the Green Bay Packers won’t bother adding another safety during the upcoming draft. That’s at least what Packers starting safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix believes.

Clinton-Dix replied to a tweet from the Packers’ official Twitter about a draft profile for Florida State safety Derwin James by saying the team has already enough good safety options on the roster. He then predicts that the team will ultimately not use a pick on the position.

The four numbers Clinton Dix listed down were likely referring to fellow safeties Kentrell Brice (No. 29), Marwin Evans (No. 25), Jermaine Whitehead (No. 35) and Josh Jones (No. 27). All four players are 25 or younger and have two years of experience or fewer.

But despite Clinton-Dix’s prediction, it seems unlikely that the Packers will completely rule out drafting a top safety prospect like James, especially if he falls to them at No. 14. James is an extremely athletic and versatile playermaker who can fill several positions on defense, which is something the Packers will miss with Burnett’s departure.

The Packers have already met with James during the combine and in a pre-draft visit, and have also been linked with other players at the position. Even with all the options at safety that they currently have on the roster, it still makes sense for the Packers to try and look for possible upgrades.

While Clinton-Dix may not agree with the Packers’ decision if they do choose to go in that direction, it’s just something he’ll have to live with.
