Green Bay Packers rookie cornerback Jaire Alexander has been ruled out of the remainder of his team's game against the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon due to a groin injury, according to the team.

Alexander had registered four tackles before exiting.

On the year, Alexander has totaled 66 tackles, half a sack, an interception, a couple of fumble recoveries, and 11 passes defended.

The 21-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was originally selected by the Packers in the first round (18th pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in the spring.

He played three years at Louisville, with his best season coming in 2016 when he finished with 39 tackles, five interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and nine passes defended.

Alexander is one of the bright spots on a Packers defense that has struggled this year.

Green Bay as a whole has been a massive disappointment in 2018. The Packers came into Sunday's action with a record of 5-8-1, having been eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Chicago Bears last week.

This marks the first time the Packers have missed the playoffs in back-to-back years since 2006. Last season, Green Bay won just seven games and failed to qualify for the postseason, largely due to the fact that quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed most of the year with a broken collarbone.

After finishing up with the Jets on Sunday, the Packers will head back home to host the Detroit Lions in wrapping up what has been a painful season.
