Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby had a truly disastrous performance against the Detroit Lions. Crosby cost the Packers 13 points from five missed kicks — four field goals and an extra point — which the team could’ve used in a 31-23 defeat.

After the game, the Crosby couldn’t quite explain how he ended up having a game he’s never experienced in his 12-year NFL career.

“This hurts a bunch,” Crosby said per the Associated Press. “I left a bunch of points on the field for this team, and I’m disappointed. This was something I’ve never been a part of before and I hope to never be a part of it again.

“This is obviously uncharted territory,” he said. “It’s not good that I was inside and felt great, and then this happened.”

It’s truly unbelievable what went down with Crosby, who has proven to be a consistent kicker for the Packers for over a decade now. After going an impressive 10 of 11 on field goals through the first four games of the year, just completely fell apart against the Lions with no indication that it was coming.

This obviously isn’t good for Crosby’s confidence going forward. A kicker’s confidence is as important as it is fragile, and this historically bad night could potentially linger in Crosby’s head for much longer.

The Packers already have several problems to deal with, which has led to their disappointing 2-2-1 start to the season through five games. If kicking issues are suddenly added to that concerning list, Green Bay could struggle to find themselves in playoff contention later in the year.
