The Green Bay Packers’ already banged up backfield took yet another injury blow as running back Ty Montgomery left for the locker room in the first half of their preseason game against the Oakland Raiders due to a foot injury.

With injuries to Jamaal Williams and Devante Mays, as well as the two-game suspension to Aaron Jones, Montgomery going down was the last thing the Packers needed heading into the season. However, it doesn’t seem as if there’s too much reason to worry about Montgomery’s injury.

“Ty Montgomery left the game, he was examined, but I’m told it was not of a serious nature,” McCarthy said per Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “I don’t have an exact diagnosis for you.”

Montgomery made the start Friday night against the Raiders. He gained 12 yards on four carries and one yard on one reception before making his premature exit.

In the first two preseason games, Montgomery had seven carries for 19 yards, as well as two catches for 13 yards.

It’s certainly great news if Montgomery’s injury is indeed not too serious. Given the Packers’ current running back situation, they can’t really afford to lose Montgomery with the season opener against Chicago creeping ever closer.

Montgomery was unfortunately unable to build from his breakout 2016 campaign last year as he suffered an injury-hit season which saw him feature in just eight games. They will be counting on him to stay healthy this time around and help the Packers running game provide some much-needed support for Aaron Rodgers.
