The trade rumors began to swirl around the Green Bay Packers concerning veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb being available to move prior to the start of the 2018 season.

However, this chatter has quickly been hushed as Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network has stated that the Packer are not looking to move on from Cobb at this point in time despite the interest in his services from other some teams. (h/t Kevin Patra of NFL.com)

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Packers are not shopping Randall Cobb and expect him to contribute, despite some teams checking on the availability of the receiver.

These trade rumors emerged at any intriguing time given that it is less than two weeks away from the start of the regular season. Cobb is currently in the last year of his four-year, $40 million deal that he will make $12.7 million in 2018, which could be weighing on the team given his production hasn't truly matched his pay over the last couple of years.

Cobb’s production has taken a notable dip over the last three years after a breakout 2014 season as he has recorded fewer than 70 catches and 660 receiving yards in each of the past two campaigns. What should be noted is that injuries have played a factor in his production falling below the expectations. However, this upcoming season is a chance to get back on track to prove that he can be a long-term piece to the puzzle that can be a primary receiving option for Aaron Rodgers in the passing game.

The 2018 season is essentially a make-or-break campaign as it will show the Packers whether it will be worth to keep him on board on a lucrative contract similar to that of what Davante Adams received last December. Simply put, his future in Green Bay is in his hands with his play this upcoming season.
