New Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo might want to schedule some more media training in the near future, as his comments on Tuesday will leave the entire fanbase outright confused. While talking to reporters on Tuesday, McAdoo randomly declared that Sam Darnold would be Carolina's starting quarterback in 2022. It seems to have taken him a moment to realize what he'd said, however, because less than two minutes later, McAdoo retracted the statement, admitting it was something he shouldn't have said.

There you have it, folks. Darnold will be the quarterback for the Panthers this season. Wait, no, he won't be. Or… we have no idea. And neither does Ben McAdoo, which is very telling about the state of the team currently.

The Panthers are one of the teams most heavily linked to a quarterback in the early part of the 2022 NFL Draft, having heavily scouted the likes of Malik Willis, Kenny Pickett, and Desmond Ridder, among others. Fans are eager to gauge what the team plans to do on draft day in order to address the position, whether it be rolling the dice with a young arm, making a trade, or just sticking with Darnold.

McAdoo's comments did nothing to clarify the team's position on Darnold, and will leave everyone, including the 24-year-old quarterback, wondering what is next for the franchise. After Matt Rhule utilized a very bizarre form of a quarterback carousel last season, with Cam Newton, PJ Walker, and Darnold all rotating in at the position, the team is in dire need of consistency under center.

Let's hope next time McAdoo takes to the mic, he'll have a more clear-cut answer about the quarterback position. At the very least he'll need to do a better job of not causing mass confusion among fans.
