The Tampa Bay Buccaneers parted ways with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy after nine seasons with the team. It seems the Carolina Panthers can now be listed among his potential suitors this offseason.

McCoy is already scheduled to meet with the Cleveland Browns on Friday. According to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Charlotte Observer, the Panthers have also shown plenty of interest in acquiring his services:

Per league source, Panthers inquired about former Bucs free agent DT Gerald McCoy – as did several others. I'm told no visit is scheduled at the current time.

There is no question that McCoy has not been as effective as he used to be. Regardless, he would still serve as a welcome addition to any defense looking to bolster in defensive line. At this point in his career, it is safe to say that the veteran will be looking to play for a contender.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Panthers currently fit that mold at this point in the offseason. Furthermore, they do not have much room to work with in terms of paying the six-time Pro Bowler that was initially slated to make $13 million with Tampa Bay going into the 2019 NFL season.

The Bucs have already found their replacement in defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Perhaps McCoy could be enamored with the possibility of joining up with a former NFC South rival to show them what they are missing out on. Still, the prospect of Carolina actually being able to sign him remains somewhat far-fetched.
