Cam Newton isn't Tom Brady. The Carolina Panthers quarterback can indeed be as effective as his New England Patriots counterpart at his peak, and even more so given his ability to make plays with his legs, but has failed to manage the consistency throughout his career that's made Brady one of the most reliable players in NFL history. As anyone around the Panthers' organization can attest, though, Newton's inability to sustain an elite level of play is hardly due to a lack of competitive desire.

In fact, having spent just a few days around Newton at the team facility, new Panthers wide receiver Chris Hogan sees some similarities between he and Brady, with whom he played for the past three seasons in New England.

“I’m really excited about it,” Hogan of being on the same team as Newton, per Panthers.com. “I’ve been in the building for just a short period of time, and everyone that has talked to me about Cam has said he’s just the ultimate competitor and wants to do whatever he can to win football games. Him and Tom are very similar in that respect. I know I’m going to enjoy getting to work with him and being on the same field as him. He’s an incredible athlete. I’m really excited about the opportunity.”

Hogan, 30, signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Carolina last week. The seven-year veteran had 35 catches for 532 yards and three scores during his last season with the Patriots, numbers that align with career norms that portray him as a valuable piece of depth at wide receiver.
