Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey exited after suffering an ankle injury in the fourth quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

McCaffrey had a successful game leading into the remaining minutes of the fourth quarter as he had scored two touchdowns. He was apparently taped on the sidelines as he was prepared to play through it. However, it seems the injury may have been deemed a bit more serious as he remained out in the following plays. The possible loss of McCaffrey will be critical for the Panthers, a club with a 0-2 record following their loss to the Buccaneers.

Mike Davis will more than likely receive the go-ahead to be inserted into McCaffrey's slot to help rally the Panthers back from their deficit they currently face. Teddy Bridgewater has had a less-than-impactful game with two interceptions. He's completed 27-of-35 passes for 289 yards however.

In the possible non-return of McCaffrey, this game may have been the Panthers to lose, as Tom Brady was due an impactful performance following his Week 1 debut against the New Orleans Saints.

McCaffrey is coming into a season where his production will be closely monitored after agreeing to a four-year extension through 2025. Hopefully, injuries such as this won't keep him sidelined for an extended period of time. The Stanford University product had 97 yards from 23 carries in his prior contest in Week 1 against the Las Vegas Raiders. He had 59 yards off 18 carries along with two touchdowns before going down with his ankle injury against the Bucs today.
