Cam Newton is a phenomenal player in his own right and is crucial to what the Carolina Panthers want to do offensively. However, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians believes that Christian McCaffrey is Carolina's ‘best player‘ on the field.

McCaffrey is arguably the most versatile running back in the NFL and due to his versatility; he can be a headache for defensive coordinators to game plan against. The offensive coordinator of the Panthers, Norv Turner, realizes that he can move McCaffrey around to keep the defense guessing at all times.

Last season, the Panthers running back was able to showcase his array of skills as he finished with the third-most yards from scrimmage in the NFL.

At the end of the 2018 season, McCaffrey had 1,098 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground while also catching 107 passes for 867 yards and another six touchdowns.

Furthermore, the third-year rusher picked up right where he left off last season in Week 1. Against the reigning NFC Champ Los Angeles Rams, McCaffrey was able to garner 128 yards and two touchdowns in the running game.

As for his pass-catching, the Stanford product also was able to corral 10 receptions for 81 yards. Among the plethora of magnificent plays he made, the most intriguing play he made came on his eight-yard touchdown run.

The Panthers called a play where McCaffrey lined up in the backfield next to Newton. With a single shift, Carolina had their dual-threat running back take a direct snap as he faked it to Newton. Then, after the fake, he was able to walk into the end zone on the left side.

That play showed just one of many ways that the Panthers could use McCaffrey to trick the defense.
