The Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers kicked off Thursday night football. Unfortunately, star running back Christian McCaffrey is out for the remainder of the game with a hamstring injury, according to Ari Meirov.
This is devastating news for the Panthers, who jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Sam Darnold ran the ball in to kick off the scoring. With McCaffrey out, they will turn to rookie running Chuba Hubbard, the former Oklahoma State star, and they will hope for the best as far as McCaffrey's status going forward for the season.
Just another brutal blow for McCaffrey, who played in just three games in the 2020 season. Thus far in 2021, he has 170 yards on the ground and 154 yards in the receiving game, and now the Panthers and Sam Darnold will find a way to get by without their best player–and arguably the best running back in the NFL.
The Panthers will hold their breath as they await the severity of the injury to their star running back, but the fact that he was ruled out so quickly doesn't bode well at all.
The situation regarding McCaffrey will be one to keep an eye on and we will wait for further updates.
