The Carolina Panthers have created a little bit of extra cap space for themselves by restructuring the contract of linebacker Luke Kuechly.

According to Darin Gantt of ProFootballTalk.com, the Carolina Panthers have converted $9.05 million of Luke Kuechly's base salary into a bonus. This adds $7.24 million in cap space for them.

While that may not seem like a crazy amount of money for cap space, it gives Carolina a little bit of breathing room. Before the restructuring, the Panthers had just over $2 million in cap space. Now they have the room to actually sign all of their draft picks.

They'll even have some extra money afterwards to play with. This gives them a lot of flexibility, especially if they end up not signing a draftee or trading some draft picks.

The Panthers went 7-9 last season, finishing third in the NFC South division. However with some nice pieces in place, things are looking better than that finish.

Specifically, Luke Kuechly is one of the best defensive players in all of football. It's also good to see he's willing to restructure his deal to help the team free up some money.

This move obviously means they'll be attempting to sign all their draft picks. It also makes you wonder if they have an idea in free agency though. Is there a certain player they're targeting with this extra money? Or do they have a position they know they want to get some help in?

Whatever the Carolina Panthers decide to do with the money is extra, because they weren't supposed to have it in the first place.
