Incoming Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has been increasing his knowledge of his new teammates' habits and skills on the field through tape. Or, rather, through virtual tape.

Bridgewater told reporters he has been playing Madden 20 to get a “better feel” for the roster as he and other athletes remain in isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic. The former New Orleans Saints backup also noted being in isolation gives him an excuse to peruse the Internet for old footage and highlights.

Alas, Bridgewater is joining numerous athletes–notably NBA stars–in the gaming trend, though he would tell you it is helping him become a better player.

Needless to say, if playing Madden 20 does indeed help Bridgewater on the field, the Panthers will not be complaining.

Carolina signed Bridgewater to a three-year, $63 million contract to become the new starting quarterback shortly after the Panthers originally allowed Cam Newton to seek a trade.

The 27-year-old once looked like a promising signal-caller in the NFL after going 17-11 in his first two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. However, Bridgewater sustained a torn ACL that forced him to miss the entire 2016 season, and he was soon relegated to the role of backup.

Bridgewater stayed the course. He got an opportunity to start for the Saints when Drew Brees went down with a thumb injury in Week 2, and Bridgewater capitalized. The former Pro Bowler won each of his five starts, which almost certainly impacted his market this offseason.

Of course, this year will present new challenges and new teammates. But thankfully, Bridgewater has Madden to help him prepare.
