The Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce entered the 2024 NFL season with longer hair, which Patrick Mahomes credits Taylor Swift for. However, the star quarterback would also like some credit.
During an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio (via People), Mahomes joked that Kelce grew out his hair because of Swift. “I've been trying to get him to grow his hair out, and all of a sudden, Taylor gets him to do it,” Mahomes said.
At the Chiefs' training camp, Kelce showed up with longer bangs and a bushy mustache. This is a far cry from his usual buzz cut and beard combination.
However, Swift is also a fan of that haircut. Kelce's barber, Patrick Regan, spoke to Fox News previously and claimed Swift “loves” his old haircut.
“She has watched me cut his hair a bunch of times and always compliments it after,” Regan claimed.
Regardless of all the hair talk, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs are getting ready to defend their Super Bowl championship. They just lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-13 in their first preseason game. They still have games against the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears before the 2024 NFL regular season commences.
The Chiefs will open the regular season since they won the Super Bowl. They have an AFC Championship Game rematch against the Baltimore Ravens slated for September 5.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce's Chiefs run
The Chiefs' Mahomes and Kelce are one of the most electric duos in the NFL. While Kelce was an established tight end before Mahomes took over the reins from Alex Smith, he has become a legend since the two-time NFL MVP took over.
Together, Patrick Mahomes and Kelce have won three Super Bowls. They first defeated the San Fransisco 49ers in LIV before losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following year in the big game. After missing out on Super Bowl LVI, the Chiefs returned the following year, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35.
At Super Bowl LVIII, the Chiefs once again had a Super Bowl matchup against the 49ers. They once again beat Kyle Shanahan's team, this time in overtime by a score of 25-22.
It has been a dynamic run. Since becoming the Chiefs' starting quarterback, Mahomes has thrown over 200 touchdowns and over 28,000 yards in just six full seasons. Kelce has had over 1,000 yards in all but one of Mahomes' starting seasons. Two years ago, he had a career-high in touchdowns (12) and catches (110).
Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift's relationship
Since September 2023, Kelce and Taylor Swift have been dating. Their romance began when Kelce gave a shout-out to Swift on his New Heights podcast. She subsequently appeared at the Chiefs' Week 3 game against the Bears to support him.
They have since become a hot topic in the world of pop culture. Swift appeared at 12 more Chiefs games throughout the season, including their Super Bowl LVIII victory, despite being on the Eras Tour.
In turn, Kelce has attended several of Swift's Eras Tour concerts to support her. He was brought on stage as a backup dancer during Swift's June 23, 2024, concert at Wembley Stadium. He performed during “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart.”
