When speaking about the greatest coach in NFL history, many believe that New England Patriots' Bill Belichick is most deserving of the title. However, Belichick claims that Paul Brown is the greatest coach in pro football history.

“He’s the greatest coach in the history of professional football, clear and simple. Everything I do today, Paul Brown did. It all started with Paul Brown. He took football from being a sport to a profession,” Belichick said.

Brown coached the Cleveland Browns from 1946-1962 and boasted an impressive 158-48-8 record. Along with his regular-season record, Brown led Cleveland to a 9-5 record in the postseason.

After leaving the Browns, Brown became the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. With the Bengals, Brown had a 55-56-1 record and failed to win any of the three playoff games he coached in Cincinnati.

Altogether, Brown won seven total championships, which all came before the Super Bowl era that began in 1967. On the other hand, Belichick is one of the most accomplished coaches in NFL history in his own right.

Over his 20 years with the Patriots, Belichick has accumulated a remarkable 234-80 record. Above all, he owns a 31-11 playoff record in his career and has secured six Super Bowl trophies (most in NFL history).

The crazy part about Belichick is that there are still six games remaining in 2019 and there's a chance he is in his 10th Super Bowl with the franchise. In the event that Belichick wins another Super Bowl, it's going to be even harder to make an argument for another coach being better than him.
