It's all bad in Boston after the New England Patriots surrendered their fourth straight loss, coming at the hands of the Buffalo Bills. While Cam Newton did perform slightly better than the debacle that he composed in Week 7, his efforts were still far off of being breathtaking.

As head coach Bill Belichick watched his Patriots slip to 2-5 in further efforts to cement their placing in the AFC East, he was well aware that the status of Newton as a starter would come into question.

“Cam’s our quarterback. It’s the way it’s been all year,” Belichick said, according to PFT.

As the window began closing on the Patriots' opportunity to steal the game with seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Cam Newton gave up a fumble after opting to rush in the final moments. The fumble sealed New England's defeat, allowing the Bills to go on with a 24-21 victory.

The Auburn University standout has went scoreless in terms of passing touchdowns in his last three games, which has often hindered the Patriots' chances of success in winnable games. It's safe to say that New England likely won't continue to deploy Newton with a confident bravado if his past performances continue to occur.

While they clearly won't look to ship off the three-time Pro-Bowler, his status as a starter could well be in danger.

The Patriots will hopefully catch a break as they go against the New York Jets in Week 9, one of their few chances of getting back into the win column. The Jets are winless after Week 8, losing their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in horrible fashion.
