New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is hunkering down for the start of the post-Tom-Brady era, stashing a plethora of quarterbacks to take his place. Belichick already has four in the chamber, starting with second-year Jarrett Stidham, journeyman Brian Hoyer and undrafted rookies Brian Lewerke and J'Mar Smith.

Some wonder if he would dare to add a fifth to that logjam — and Belichick didn't completely rule that out:

“That's where we are,” Belichick told NFL.com. “You never know what's going to happen down the road, but we feel like we have four good players there.”

The Patriots are believed to have the toughest schedule in 2020 based on their opponents' 2019 records — something unprecedented for Belichick as a coach in New England.

Belichick was the co-star of the 2020 NFL Draft: Remote Edition, as his dog “Nike” often sat in the decision-making chair, something the cameras were thrilled to get. When asked about his canine friend, Belichick hinted at a potential return for another 15 minutes of fame:

“I think he's sleeping,” Belichick quipped on Thursday's Schedule Release '20 LIVE show. “We went for a little walk today. I think he's sleeping it off. But he's working on the supplemental draft. In case anything comes up in July, we'll be ready to go.”

If the Patriots get another quarterback in the supplemental draft, they would most likely be forced to make decisions as to who to cut. Lewerke (Michigan State) and Smith (Louisiana Tech) both signed as undrafted free agents and are the two most likely to get the axe with little to no contractual guarantees.
