In his tell-all on his “Funky Friday” YouTube release, former New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton didn't hold back any punches.

One topic of intrigue circulated around rookie quarterback Mac Jones winning the job over Newton as the starter. According to Newton, that's not how it went down or how he views the situation.

Newton believes him being a backup quarterback for the Patriots would've been an indirect distraction. He may have a valid point with that but what people will flock to is his comments about saying Mac Jones didn't beat him out.

It sounds like sour grapes from Newton but again, he brings up valid points.

His release from the Patriots came as a surprise to many as he was expected to be the starter throughout the whole offseason. At least that's what most had assumed.

Clearly New England felt more than comfortable handing the keys to the car over to Mac Jones and while Newton was alright with the Patriots last year, it's not as though he was playing at the MVP level he once displayed in his career with the Carolina Panthers.

All of that likely made him expendable in the eyes of Bill Belichick and it's all the other angles that Newton himself is buying into as logic for getting released. You won't find Cam Newton saying or admitting that he was straight up beat out by Mac Jones for the gig in New England.
