New England Patriots defensive back Jason McCourty is no lock to survive the final roster cuts before the regular season begins. While McCourty obviously hopes to make the 53-man roster, he's trying not to worry about it too much at this point in his career, according to Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald.

“Nothing will be different for me this year than it’s been in prior years,” McCourty said. “I really don’t concern myself with what goes on, especially this being year 10. I’ve probably exceeded every expectation I had for myself, going into my rookie year of what my NFL career would be. So whatever happens here, happens. You put it in God’s hands. You play your best. However it goes down, it goes down.”

While McCourty is a longtime cornerback, he has been playing some free safety for New England this preseason. McCourty's twin brother, Devin, is a projected starter at safety alongside Patrick Chung. Duron Harmon is also expected to play a key role at the position. The 31-year-old McCourty played a good chunk of the preseason finale on Thursday.

“This has been a unique process so far,” McCourty added. “It's been a lot of fun having (Devin) next to me, being able to have our families hang out with one another, mom having to come to one city to see us play. I've enjoyed every moment. Even coming in, in April, I kind of put a premium on that. You don't know what's going to unfold, how this thing's going to go. So just make sure throughout the process you enjoy every moment and soak it all in.”

McCourty has played nine seasons in the NFL. He was a sixth round pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2009, and he proceeded to spend eight seasons with the Titans before joining the Cleveland Browns last year. The veteran recorded 65 combined tackles, three interceptions and two forced fumbles in 2017.
